DAG-rescued baby elephant hanging in there

The orphaned baby elephant that was discovered by DAG personnel about three weeks ago in the Maputo Special Reserve, is still not out of the woods. She’s had her ups and downs but the fight for survival is strong and there is indeed hope that this youngster will pull through.

She does however need specialised care that will in all likelihood be provided at a facility in South Africa. At the moment representatives from both Mozambique and South Africa are negotiating to expedite the approval of the necessary permits to make this happen.

Various parties have been involved in this rescue mission – from DAG’s discovery of the baby elephant wandering alone in the bush, to administrative support from Mozambique’s National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC) and the Peace Parks Foundation as well as the veterinary care provided by Saving the Survivors.
